Whether I choose to admit it or not, at times I can be a very emotional person. Last week I was watching Live with Kelly and Michael when they announced a recent study stating that only 20% of Americans actually enjoy what they do for a living.
I was shocked. I told Leonard about this study and his response was, “I’m surprised it is that high” and this brought tears to my eyes. Even writing this today, I am tearing up. It just breaks my heart that so many of us are stuck in a rut and just going through the motions day to day.
Whether it is your entire day that you are not enjoying or just the 40 +/- hours you are spending at work each week, its way too much time to not enjoy life.
Why do you work where you work? Is it truly your passion or somewhere down the line did you decide to stay in the safe lane? Maybe you wanted to go to college to be an artist but fear and doubt drove you to business because it was “safe.” Maybe you ended a relationship with someone you were crazy about because you were afraid of what people would think and say; so you ended up with the “safe” one. Whatever the case may be, I challenge you today to stop and think about whether or not you are living a purpose-filled life. As Helen Keller said, “Life is a daring adventure or it is nothing.”
One of the most common regrets in life is not living with courage; but living the life of others expectations. Do yourself and everyone you come into contact a favor – challenge yourself to dig deep within your soul and find out what you are passionate about, what drives you, what make you happy…..whatever that may be, get out and do it!
“We weren’t born to blend in; we were born to stand out.”
…and please let me know if I can help you do it!
